IP disputes and mediation: experts discussed current trends

The UBA Intellectual Property Committee and the UBA Mediation Committee held the event «Transformation of IP Dispute Resolution Practices» on February 25, 2025 in Kyiv.

The event was focused on discussing the effectiveness of mediation in resolving IP disputes, its advantages over litigation, as well as new trends in this area in Ukraine and worldwide.

The event was moderated by Tetiana Ognevyuk, Deputy Chairman of the UBA Committee on Intellectual Property, Partner of Dispute Resolution Practice at AMBASSADORS, PhD in Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Law at the European University.

Participants had the opportunity to join several informative panels. In particular, the discussion «Mediation vs. Litigation» allowed to compare the advantages and challenges of both approaches to resolving IP disputes. It was held by mediator Natalia Kovalko and attorney Oleksandr Mamunya.

In addition, Aurika Grybovska, Head of the Mediation and Mediation Center of the IP Office, shared the current trends in IP mediation both in Ukraine and worldwide. Pylyp Bilytskyi, patent attorney, attorney at law, mediator, member of the Board of the National Association of Patent Attorneys of Ukraine, spoke about the importance of patent attorneys in mediation processes, and Oksana Marchenko, judge of the Kyiv Commercial Court, outlined the role of the judicial system in the development of mediation.

The event ended with a summary and Q&A session, during which the participants had the opportunity to discuss the most pressing issues of mediation in the field of intellectual property.
