Legal Nuances of International Contracts: Another Virtual Coffee Meeting Held
On 3 July 2025, the UBA Committee on International Law hosted a virtual coffee meeting titled “Contracts Without Borders | Legal Nuances of International Agreements.” In an informal online setting, lawyers and business representatives discussed the most pressing challenges and solutions in the field of cross-border contract law.
Speakers:
- Olga Kuchmienko, Chair of the UBA Committee on International Law, attorney at law, PhD in Law
- Viktoriia Ivasechko, Member of the Committee Board, Counsel at Redcliffe Partners
Key insights shared with participants included:
- Choosing the applicable law in international contracts and the consequences of an overly casual approach to this issue;
- Reviewing contract templates provided by foreign counterparties — identifying typical risks and hidden “traps”;
- Jurisdiction and arbitration clauses — their role in cross-border agreements and interaction with Ukrainian legislation.
The event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere that encouraged open exchange of experiences among legal experts, practitioners, and business professionals. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and share their own cases.
This session is part of the Committee’s long-term programme aimed at supporting the legal community and business in the international arena. It is a natural continuation of the Committee’s initiatives such as the “International Law Club” and “International Law for In-house Counsel”.
We thank all participants for their engagement and the welcoming atmosphere. Stay tuned for upcoming events from the UBA Committee on International Law!
