UBA Procedural Law Committee Discusses Reform of Judicial Procedures
On April 24, 2025, the UBA Committee on Procedural Law held an online event in Kyiv titled “Choice of Court Agreements: How They Work and What Needs to Change.” This was the third discussion in a series dedicated to the Concept for the Improvement of Judicial Procedures, which was first presented at the XII UBA Judicial Forum on December 6, 2024.
Participants focused on the practical functioning of choice of court agreements in Ukraine, current challenges in their application, and discussed the provisions of the Concept, including potential avenues for reforming the legal framework in this area.
The discussion was moderated by Sergiy Gryshko, Chair of the UBA Committee on Procedural Law and Managing Partner at Queritius Ukraine. The keynote address was delivered by Ksenia Prokhur, Deputy Chair of the Committee and Counsel at Baker McKenzie. The event gathered lawyers, academics, and other experts in procedural law.
Held in an online format, the event served as a vital platform for professional dialogue on judicial reform and the enhancement of procedural legislation. The UBA Committee on Procedural Law will continue the discussion series with the aim of developing high-quality legislative initiatives through collective expertise.
The event once again confirmed the legal community’s strong interest in improving procedural law mechanisms and highlighted the need for a deeper understanding of how choice of court agreements is applied in practice. Participants agreed that for this legal instrument to function effectively in Ukraine, both legislative amendments and consistent, unified judicial practice are necessary. The Committee will continue its work on drafting relevant proposals and engaging the professional community in shaping these reforms.
