The UBA Committee Held Its Fourth Discussion on Improving Procedural Rules
On May 22, 2025, Kyiv hosted the latest event in a series of public discussions initiated by the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) Committee on Procedural Law. This event marked the fourth in a sequence of discussions on the Concept for the Improvement of Judicial Procedures, originally presented at the XII UBA Judicial Forum on December 6, 2024. This session focused on key topics such as alternative claims, witness summons, and party examination under the Commercial and Civil Procedure Codes of Ukraine.
The discussion featured distinguished speakers, including Vasyl Krat, Judge of the Supreme Court, and Sergiy Gryshko, Chair of the UBA Committee on Procedural Law and Managing Partner at Sergiy Gryshko Law Office "Queritius Ukraine." The event brought together judges, attorneys, academics, and members of the broader legal community for an in-depth professional dialogue.
Participants concentrated on the practical implications of choice-of-court agreements in Ukraine, explored current challenges in their application, and discussed the Concept for the Improvement of Judicial Procedures as well as potential ways for reforming this legal instrument in line with the proposed Concept.
The event once again underscored the legal community’s strong interest in enhancing procedural law mechanisms and the importance of continued reflection on the implementation of choice-of-court agreements. The participants concluded that effective operation of this legal institute in Ukraine requires both legislative amendments and the consistent development of uniform judicial practice. The UBA Committee on Procedural Law will continue to develop relevant proposals and engage the professional community in further discussions.
