Protecting the rights of athletes in anti-doping cases: an expert opinion
On March 12, 2025, the UBA Sports Law Committee held an online event dedicated to the important topic of “Observance of the rights of athletes in anti-doping cases”.
The event was moderated by Yevhen Promsky, Chairman of the UBA Sports Law Committee and attorney at law of ARES Law Firm.
During the event, key issues were discussed regarding the rights of athletes, doping control procedures and defense in case of accusations of violation of anti-doping rules. The experts also emphasized the importance of legal and medical support for athletes and the role of the Anti-Doping Ombudsman.
The following speakers were present:
- Anna Ryzhykova, Ukrainian champion, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine, Olympic bronze medalist, member of the NADC Athletes Council, anti-doping ombudsman, who shared her experience of working with athletes and protecting their rights.
- Kateryna Koval, lawyer, head of the NADC's results processing department, who spoke about doping control procedures and the importance of observing athletes' rights during such procedures.
- Hanna Hnizdovska, attorney at law, Head of Juris Ferrum, Deputy Head of the NADC Anti-Doping Appeals Commission, who highlighted the procedure for reviewing anti-doping cases at the NADC.
The event has become an important platform for discussing current issues in the field of anti-doping activities and athletes' rights and contributed to raising awareness of athletes and lawyers on the protection of athletes' rights in the context of anti-doping disputes. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive professional advice from experts.
