Presentation of the Guide on the Responsible Use of AI for Legal Professionals

On 4 September 2025, Kyiv hosted the Presentation of the Guide on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Legal Professionals, organized by the UBA Committee on IT, Media, and Data Protection in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. The event brought together representatives of the legal community, the public sector, and AI experts, both offline and online via Zoom.

The event served as an important platform for discussing modern opportunities for using artificial intelligence in legal practice, as well as the related ethical, legal, and practical aspects. Participants received practical advice on the safe and effective integration of AI into the daily work of legal professionals and discussed approaches to building a responsible attitude toward new technologies in the legal profession.

The event was moderated by Sofia Petkova, AI Projects Coordinator at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, who ensured a dynamic flow of presentations, speeches, and discussions.

The opening remarks were delivered by Iryna Stroyko, attorney at law, Ph.D., and Member of the Board of the UBA Committee on IT, Media, and Data Protection, who emphasized the importance of timely legal responses to technological changes, including the implementation of AI in the legal field. This was followed by a presentation by Oleh Dubno, AI Project Manager at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, entitled “How Ukraine Regulates AI: Bottom-Up Approach and Sectoral Recommendations for Responsible AI”, outlining the current state of regulatory frameworks in Ukraine and the principles underpinning national AI development policy.

The central part of the event was the presentation of the Recommendations on the Responsible Use of AI for Legal Professionals by Olga Kozub, Legal Expert on AI at the Ministry of Digital Transformation. The Guide is intended to help lawyers understand how to implement AI tools safely, ethically, and effectively in their professional work.

During the first panel discussion, “The Lawyer and Technology: Safe Integration of AI into Legal Practice”, experts discussed practical challenges arising from the application of AI in the legal field and shared their own experiences of implementing technologies in legal practice. The panel was moderated by Olga Kozub and included: Olena Andriienko, Deputy Legal Director at Publicis Groupe Ukraine; Petro Bilyk, Head of Technology & Investment, AI, CIO at Juscutum; Tetiana Avdieieva, Senior Legal Counsel at Digital Security Lab (online); and Kostiantyn Zerov, attorney at law, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Department of IP and Information Law.

The second panel discussion, “The Future of the Legal Profession in the Age of AI: Challenges and Prospects”, was moderated by Sofia Klymchuk, Expert in International Policy and AI Law at the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Panelists included: Oksana Litvinova, Advisor to the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine; Yehor Razohreiev, Director of the Directorate of Digital Development at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; Yan Bernaziuk, Judge of the Administrative Cassation Court within the Supreme Court; and Artem Kobryn, representative of the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP), who joined the discussion online. The panel addressed issues of judicial practice, regulatory changes, and opportunities for the legal profession amid rapid AI development.

The presentation of the Guide marked another step toward building a common vision of how the legal community can integrate innovative technologies while upholding ethical standards and professional responsibility.
