The Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) together with the International Bar Association (IBA) invite you to the Business Breakfast: “ReOpen Ukraine 2023”.

Only delegates of the IBA Annual Conference 2023 can participate in the event.

As the satellite event for the IBA Annual Conference 2023, the breakfast aims at drawing the attention of the world’s legal community, governments, international organizations, and civil society to the measures aimed at restoring the rule of law in Ukraine.

07:45 - 08:00. Welcome remarks.

08:00 - 08:15. Keynote speaker. The transformation of the opinion of the French society regarding the war in Ukraine and the assistance provided by France to Ukraine.

Bernard-Henri Lévy. Bernard-Henri Lévy is a French philosopher, filmmaker and writer. He is the author of 47 books and 8 films. Lévy is one of the West's foremost intellectuals, defending democracy and humanism against totalitarianism and fascism. Lévy has made films on the war in Bosnia, Libya, Iraqi Kurdistan besieged by ISIS, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Ukraine. Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Lévy has made two new documentary films in Ukraine: Why Ukraine and Slava Ukraini. Lévy's commitment to Ukraine is longstanding. He addressed the crowd on the Maidan in 2014; represented the President of France at the 75th anniversary of Babi Yar commemorations; embedded with the Ukrainian military in Donbas in 2020 and has been back and forth countless times encouraging the brave Ukrainian people in their fight for democracy and freedom.

Jean-Marc Thouvenin, academic advisor, Secretary General of the Hague Academy of International Law, professor of law at the University of Paris-Nanterre, member of the working group on the development and implementation of international legal mechanisms for compensation for damage caused to Ukraine as a result of armed aggression of the Russian Federation
