The 14th Civic Engagement Camp: the UBA Students' League forms new leadership potential
The 14th Civic Engagement Camp, which is already a traditional and recognized brand of the Ukrainian Bar Association Students' League, took place on March 8-10, 2024 in Kyiv. For 14 years, this event has been not only a platform for learning, but also a real springboard for developing the skills and leadership qualities of participants.
The main goal of the camp is to teach students how to look for and find opportunities to implement their socially useful projects. Over the course of three days, participants had the opportunity to:
- learn how to successfully build teamwork and improve soft skills;
- realize their incredible ideas under the guidance of leading experts from various fields;
- learn to overcome the fear of public speaking through intensive training;
- improve leadership skills and meet a large number of participants from all over the country.
Each participant was able to test his or her knowledge in practice, as the camp concept is based on teamwork on real projects. The best project was given the opportunity to be implemented, and all participants were awarded valuable prizes from the event partners.
The teams were managed by experienced mentors, former league members, who headed 5 areas and coordinated the work of the teams:
- Internal Development - Anastasia Solyar, Bohdan Marchyshyn;
- Event management - Liubov Martynyshyn, Marko Malinovskyi;
- Government relations - Veronika Godlevska, Yura Pukavsky;
- Public relations - Kateryna Omelchuk, Khrystyna Pistun, Oleh Balkovskyi;
- External relations - Yulia Seredynska, Natalia Chop.
The camp also welcomed leading experts who shared their experience. On the first day of the event, Kateryna Pyshchyk, the UBA Project Manager, spoke to the students on the topic "Preparing to organize an event: what should you have on paper before you start acting?".
On the second day, the future lawyers listened to a speech by Mykhailo Protsailo, attorney at WCC practice at LCF Law Group, member of the UBA, on "Negotiations in the life of the League".
The event was attended by 38 participants who had the opportunity to learn and share experiences. The partners also played an important role in the success of the camp:
- Verkhovyna Hotel Complex, the accommodation partner;
- event partners - YurKnyga online store, #Knyholav publishing house, Ukrainian brand Poruch, Low5 Games, pink_pack_ua;
- annual partners of the UBA Students' League - Krolevetskyi & Partners, MORIS, AVELLUM, BRYLIANT LAW GROUP, Sergiev Law Firm;
- LCF Law Group, exclusive partner of the UBA Students’ League.
The final stage of the camp was a solemn part, during which Ksenia Ukolova, Head of the UBA Students' League, and Danylo Fedyk, Deputy Head of the UBA Students' League, announced the victory of the Government Relations team.
"Why did this team take the 1st place? Apart from the fact that this is a strong project, we have actually focused on who we are, what we are about, and who we are for... We are a public organization, the voice of students who care about the future, and this project, like no other, has shown its relevance and ability to be implemented in the shortest possible time," Ksenia said.
At the final stage of the 14th Civic Engagement Camp, honorary awards were presented for a significant contribution to the development of the UBA Students’ League. This is a special moment when well-deserved awards are given to those who have made a significant contribution to the formation and strengthening of the organization through their efforts and dedication.
A person who has a history of membership in the UBA Students' League or is a member of the League and at the same time has made a significant contribution to the development and improvement of the organization's activities may become an Honorary Member. At this camp, the title of Honorary League Member was awarded to people who worked for the benefit of the League with their titanic efforts: Khrystyna Pistun, Bohdan Marchyshyn, Liubov Martynyshyn, and Anastasia Solyar.
The Ukrainian Bar Association Students' League has once again demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and commitment to its goals in promoting the development of young lawyers and activists. The 14th Civic Engagement Camp became a bright event for all participants, a reliable preparation for their future in the field of law and public activity.
