Ukrainian Team won the 47th edition of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition
Team of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy won the 47th edition of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition.
Team comprised Vladyslav Levchuk (2nd year of LLB), Anstasiia Shashkevych (3rd year of LLB), Vladyslav Mykhalchenko (4th year of LLB) and Anna Tymoshenko (2nd year of LLM). Coaches are Volodymyr Hryshko (2019 Telders Moot 2nd Overall, 2020 Jessup Ukraine National Champion) and Masha Stolbova (2018 Telders Moot 2nd Overall, co-coach of 2019 Telders Moot and 2020 Jessup Ukraine), public speaking coach - John Faulk.
Telders Moot is the most prestigious European moot court competition on Public International Law hosted by Leiden University in The Hague, Netherlands. The final round of the competition takes place in the Peace Palace in the hall of the International Court of Justice.
8 months of preparation resulted in two written submission (‚Memorials‘) counting a total of 103 pages and winning the National Rounds.
In four preliminary rounds in The Hague the team competed against the teams from France, Slovakia, Spain and Norway. In the final round the Ukrainian Team competed against Slovakia.
Beyond winning the International Final the team also took the following results:
- Best Applicant Memorial
- Best Applicant Oral Argument
- 10th Overall Respondent
- 2nd Overall Team
This is the second time in the history of the competition when the Ukrainian team wins the Final Round. Both times, in 2016 and 2024, the winners come from NaUKMA.
Telders comprises oral and written rounds and as based on a moot case (a summary of factual circumstances) involving a number of issues on international public law. This year’s 7-pages case on the Island of Hemret addresses a dispute involving three States with a history centered on colonialism and sovereignty claims over the island of Hemret. The Case delves into topics such as provisional measures, the jurisdiction of international courts and tribunals, incidental proceedings, the authority of advisory opinions, the law of armed conflict, the law of treaties, the law of the sea, cyberattacks and the law of State responsibility.
