Book Presentation: “The Handbook for Candidates for Local Court Judge Positions”

On 4 May 2025, the UBA Judges Section, in partnership with the Serhiy Nyzhny School of Public Administration and the Yurinkom Inter Publishing House, held a presentation in Kyiv for the newly released book: “The Handbook for Candidates for Local Court Judge Positions”.

The event was moderated by Yevhen Petrov, Judge of the Civil Cassation Court within the Supreme Court of Ukraine and Doctor of Law.The author of the book is Tetiana Ohnieviuk — Deputy Chair of the UBA Committee on Intellectual Property, Partner in the Dispute Resolution Practice at AMBASSADORS Law Firm, and PhD in Law.

This publication is a comprehensive practical guide designed for legal professionals aspiring to join the Ukrainian judiciary. The author outlines each stage of the judicial selection process — from forming the right motivation to undergoing interviews with the High Qualification Commission of Judges (HQCJ) and the High Council of Justice (HCJ).

The book includes an overview of relevant Supreme Court case law related to judicial selection procedures, along with practical recommendations based on real case experience representing candidates in judicial proceedings.

The book will be particularly valuable to:

  • Law students,
  • Legal professionals pursuing judicial or public career advancement,
  • Practitioners interested in the development of Ukraine’s judiciary and the enhancement of professional standards in the justice system.

The event served as a platform for a professional dialogue on the challenges and opportunities associated with the judicial career path. It also emphasized the need for a systematic approach to preparing future judges.
