Civil society organisations urged the Core Group on accountability for the crime of aggression against Ukraine to accelerate the process of establishment of the Special Tribunal
The Ukrainian Bar Association and other civil society organizations urged the Core Group on accountability for the crime of aggression against Ukraine to urgently establish the International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. In addition to the UBA, the relevant letter was signed by the Center for Civil Liberties, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, ZMINA, DEJURE Foundation, Center for Democracy and Rule of Law, Global Accountability Network, Public International Law and Policy Group and Truth Hounds.
In their letter, civil society organizations urged the member states of the Core Group not to delay the creation of the Special Tribunal. In addition, the signatory organizations emphasized that the scale and seriousness of the crime of aggression against Ukraine require a proportionate response, that is, the creation of a full-fledged international tribunal. The model of an internationalized tribunal based on the jurisdiction of Ukraine (which is also being considered by the Intergovernmental Group) not only contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine, but also downplays the seriousness of the crime of aggression committed against Ukraine.
