Olga Salenko presents the results of trial monitoring in war crimes cases to representatives of the Free Secondary Legal Aid System

Olga Salenko, national expert for the UBA project “The Trial Monitoring in War Crimes Cases,” was a speaker at a training for representatives of the Free Secondary Legal Aid System, which took place on September 13-14, 2024.

The training, organized by the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) case law.

During her presentation, Olga Salenko shared the results of the trial monitoring, highlighting the right to defense in war crimes cases. She also drew attention to relevant ECtHR case law regarding the provision of effective, real, and practical legal aid.

In other panel discussions focused on the application of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine through the lens of European standards, Ms. Salenko referenced ECtHR practices regarding search procedures and mentioned other notable Court rulings.
