Our legal front. Overview of the UBA's activities in 2022

The previous year has fundamentally changed the activities of the Ukrainian Bar Association. Like most Ukrainians, we had to do many things for the first time. It is symbolic that the UBA was put to these tests in 20th year of its existence.

While our brave defenders fought off the Russian onslaught on the real front, the Association defended the country on the legal front. On the second day of the full-scale invasion, we launched a free Hotline to help war-affected Ukrainians. The UBA advocated the creation of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, together with the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Global Accountability Network Ukraine Task Force (GAN UTF) worked on documenting evidence of war crimes.

The Association actively helped Ukrainian lawyers that found themselves in a difficult situation due to the war. Together with the "Kind Hearts for Ukraine" Charity Fund, we provided financial assistance to those lawyers and their families who needed it. We helped lawyers who were forced to flee their homes with relocation to other regions of the country. The UBA implemented initiatives to find accommodation, support with visa issues, and help with job searching for lawyers that were forced to leave Ukraine.

At the same time, the Association continued to be the voice of the legal community of Ukraine, developed legislative proposals, provided expert comments to the mass media, held events, created educational opportunities for lawyers, etc.
