Mykola Stetsenko speaks at a session of the IBA Annual Conference 2024

Mykola Stetsenko, President of the Ukrainian Bar Association, is participating this week in the IBA Annual Conference 2024, held in Mexico City, Mexico.

On Monday, September 16, Mr. Stetsenko served as one of the speakers in a session focused on combating bullying, sexual harassment and gender inequality in the legal profession.

During the session, the interim results of the ‘50:50 by 2030’ study were presented. This global initiative by the IBA, supported by the LexisNexis Rule of Law Foundation, aims to address gender inequality in the legal sector. The nine-year project seeks to uncover the root causes of gender imbalance at all levels of the legal profession, from private practice to the judiciary.

In his speech, Mykola Stetsenko emphasized that, as part of this global initiative, the UBA conducted a ‘50:50 by 2030’ survey among law firms and legal departments in Ukraine. The results of this research will be published soon.

"It is very important to see Ukraine in the context of other countries from various continents that have already conducted such surveys… It was crucial to discuss the challenges faced by female lawyers and compare the best practices for supporting women's growth in legal careers," said the UBA President.

Mykola Stetsenko expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the survey and voiced hope that this marks the beginning of future changes and continued support for women in the legal profession.
