Mykola Stetsenko: The indispensable role of lawyers in building a just and prosperous society
The legal profession plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law, promoting social equality, and driving economic growth globally. Lawyers act as catalysts for positive societal change, contributing to the advancement of education, environmental sustainability, and public health. Mykola Stetsenko, President of the Ukrainian Bar Association, Managing Partner at AVELLUM, highlights this in his blog on LIGA.net.
In the publication, Mr. Stetsenko examines the findings of the International Bar Association’s (IBA) report on the social and economic impact of the legal profession, published this year. According to him, the report emphasizes the significant role lawyers play in defending citizens' rights, strengthening institutional resilience, and combating inequality. The UBA President also points out the positive effects of the rule of law on public health and environmental protection.
“Lawyers do not simply apply laws — they help lay the foundations for a more educated and resilient society,” Mykola Stetsenko asserts, underscoring the importance of the legal profession.
In Mr. Stetsenko's view, although the legal profession already has a significant impact on society, modern challenges demand even greater efforts from lawyers to safeguard justice and equality.
