UBA Students’ League and LCF Law Group held a workshop “International Cooperation in Criminal Proceedings”

On August 15, the UBA Students' League and LCF Law Group held an offline workshop on “International Cooperation in Criminal Proceedings” in Kyiv. The event was organized at the office of LCF Law Group and brought together students, young lawyers and legal professionals.

The workshop was conducted by experienced experts — Anastasiia Didenko, Counsel and Head of Anti-Corruption and Compliance practice at LCF Law Group, and Maksym Bekhalo, Associate, Attorney at LCF Law Group. They shared their practical knowledge and experience with the participants seeking to expand their competencies in international law.

The main topics covered at the event included:

  • In absentia (special pre-trial and trial proceedings) — participants learned about the peculiarities of proceedings when the suspect or accused is outside Ukraine.
  • Interpol activities (information exchange, search systems) — experts discussed the role of Interpol in international cooperation, in particular, how information is exchanged and how search systems are used.
  • Extradition procedure — key aspects were considered, including how extradition of persons suspected of committing criminal offenses is initiated and implemented.

The organizers note that today lawyers are facing more and more challenges related to international legal aid. The activities of Ukrainian law enforcement officers at the international level are now growing: the number of requests to foreign countries is increasing, suspicions are being served on persons outside Ukraine, extradition is being initiated, etc. To help novice lawyers prepare for these challenges, it is useful to organize such meetings to not only deepen their knowledge but also to get answers to practical questions. Such events are an important tool for training new generations of lawyers who will be able to work effectively in the context of globalization and expanding international contacts.

At the end of the workshop, a pleasant surprise awaited the participants — a tour of the LCF Law Group office. Participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the working conditions of one of the leading law firms in Ukraine, see how the work of professional lawyers is organized, and ask questions about working in such an environment. It was a great opportunity for students to see the legal profession from the inside and get inspiration for their future careers.

The UBA Students' League expresses its sincere gratitude to the LCF Law Group team for holding this extremely useful workshop.

“Your professional support and willingness to share your knowledge are invaluable for future lawyers. We are especially grateful for the warm welcome and the opportunity to visit the company's office, which left an unforgettable impression and became a source of additional motivation,” the co-organizers of the event emphasized.

The UBA Students’ League looks forward to further cooperation and new interesting events that will help law students grow and develop in their chosen profession.
