Money, Cryptocurrency, and Divorce: UBA Committee Hosts Online Event

On July 11, 2025, the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) Committee on Civil, Family and Inheritance Law held an online event titled: “Division of Monetary Assets Between Spouses.” The discussion brought together leading experts, lawyers, and judges to address pressing issues in family law

The event was moderated by Olena Sibirtseva, Chair of the Committee, Counsel at AGA Partners, and attorney at law.

Speakers included:

  • Olga Stupak, Judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court;
  • Olga Lepikhina, Committee Board Member, attorney at law;
  • Oleksandr Hubin, Committee Board Member, Counsel at AGA Partners, attorney at law;
  • Yurii Nekliaiev, Deputy Chair of the Committee, Counsel at Asters, attorney at law.

The event focused on complex and practically significant issues, including:

  • How to determine the scope of monetary assets to be divided in court and through contractual arrangements;
  • Recent Supreme Court case law and effective tools for gathering evidence on joint ownership in the form of monetary assets;
  • Legal aspects of dividing foreign assets, particularly funds located outside Ukraine;
  • The legal nature and challenges of dividing digital assets, including cryptocurrency.

The event generated strong interest among the legal community and attracted a large number of participants from across Ukraine. The discussion was highly engaging, with numerous questions posed to the speakers, underscoring the importance and relevance of the topic.
