The IBA digest: reports, interviews, events, a survey, a scholarship

The Ukrainian Bar Association brings to your attention a selection of materials from the International Bar Association (IBA): reviews, reports, and researches in various areas of law, interviews from the margins of the IBA Annual Conference 2022, a survey on principal developments in the legal profession and much more.

A survey

The IBA's Future of Legal Services Commission is conducting a survey regarding the principal developments in the legal profession identified so far. Lawyers, legal academics, law students, business services professionals and legal technologists are invited to participate in the survey. The data collected on a strictly anonymous basis will be used to produce a heatmap. The results of the survey will inform how the IBA prioritises its work, and enable the Association to influence and prepare for developments coming down the line. The survey is available via the link.

Interviews, speeches, posts

  • Almudena Arpón de Mendívil y Aldama, IBA President from January 1, 2023, the first woman to hold this position in 20 years and only the second in the Association’s 76-year history, published her first post on the Presidential blog. In a brief message, she outlines her primary goal for the next two years of her presidency — increasing the leadership of the IBA and the legal profession as a whole — and the steps she will take to achieve that goal.
  • Interviews from the margins of the IBA Annual Conference 2022:
  • An interview with Patricia Kameri-Mbote, Director of the Law Division at the United Nations Environment Programme and the former Dean of the University of Nairobi School of Law. In this interview she discusses how she created her path for success, the struggles she faced along the way and the ideologies that helped her get through it all.

  • The IBA’s Legal Policy & Research Unit (LPRU) hosted a webinar reflecting on the events co-hosted by the IBA at COP27, continuing discussions on the role of lawyers in tackling the climate crisis.
