The Ukrainian Bar Association held the first meeting with foreign colleagues - international participants of the UBA

On November 23, 2022, the first meeting of representatives of the Ukrainian Bar Association with international participants of the UBA took place – with foreign lawyers who expressed a desire to support the Association and become part of its community.

The purpose of the meeting was to get to know the participants better and to tell them in more detail about the UBA activities, to outline joint areas of work.

Foreign legal colleagues from different parts of the world expressed great support for the Ukrainian legal community and assured of their readiness to help on the way to fair justice and the achievement of the rule of law.

During the meeting, the representatives of the Association presented the main directions of their activity, which is now fully aimed at responding to the challenges faced by the international and national justice systems, supporting Ukrainians who have suffered because of the war, and improving the regulatory framework in accordance with the requirements of the martial law.

Thus, the Association helped more than 5,000 citizens of Ukraine affected by the war by providing free legal support through the UBA Hotline, became an information center for Ukrainian lawyers to find housing, education, and work opportunities in Ukraine and abroad, was one of the first to advocate the creation of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression.

In its public statements, the UBA urged the politicians to take decisions regarding economic, financial, and other sanctions against Russia and Belarus, together with the Center for Civil Liberties - a co-winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize - submitted a report on Russia's war crimes to the Moscow Mechanism of the OSCE, together with the International Bar Association (IBA) contributed to the collection of over 20,000 photo and video evidence of international crimes in the eyeWitness to Atrocities app.

Also, the UBA together with the Global Accountability Network prepared the White Paper "Russian war crimes against Ukraine: the breach of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation" based on information from open sources.

The Ukrainian Bar Association Ukraine expresses its sincere gratitude to fellow international participants who, in this extremely difficult time, lend their helping hand to the Ukrainian legal community, provide professional support and share Ukraine's vision of the rule of law.
