The New York State Bar Association urges the United Nations to launch a tribunal to investigate Russia's crimes in Ukraine!
The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) is the first international legal organization to support the establishment of a tribunal for investigation of crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, including but not limited to the crime of aggression.
On July 19, NYSBA’s Executive Committee voted unanimously for urging the United Nations to investigate and prosecute members of the Russian military and government for violations of international law, including human rights violations, crimes against humanity, and aggression. The full text of the resolution can be found at the link.
As previously reported, the UBA and the International Section of NYSBA (NYSBA International) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in December 2021, and NYSBA Chapter in Ukraine was established on the platform of the UBA. Further to this, in February 2022, the Ukraine Task Force was also created to unite lawyers to counter the aggression of the Russian Federation in the legal frontline and restore the rule of law in Ukraine.
“This is one of the challenges we as international lawyers encounter — to leave no immoral and unlawful deed legally unpunished,” — says Anna Ogrenchuk, President of the UBA and President of NYSBA’s Chapter in Ukraine, “With the support of NYSBA experts, we believe we can show to international judicial institutions the scale and depth of Russia’s crimes in Ukraine. I strongly believe that the future of not only Ukraine but of Western civilization depends on our success in bringing perpetrators to justice.”
We are grateful to the New York State Bar Association for its support and joint efforts in the legal fight for justice!
