The UBA was honored with the IBA award for extraordinary leadership and commitment to the protection of human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine
On October 30, 2022, during the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference in Miami, USA, the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) was awarded a special IBA award "For extraordinary leadership and commitment to the protection of human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine". Anna Ogrenchuk, the UBA President, received the award.
Accepting the award from the IBA President Mr.Sternford Moyo, Anna noted: "This award actually belongs to all lawyers of Ukraine: attorneys, judges, prosecutors, notaries, bailiffs, and many other lawyers. It belongs to my courageous and fearless colleagues who protect Ukraine from the modern evil, which has grown up next to us. Some lawyers resist the aggression of the Russian Federation with weapons on the front line, and some - fulfilling their duty to protect the rule of law.
The UBA is grateful to the international community for its support. Together with the IBA, we helped thousands of Ukrainians by providing free legal aid on issues related to the war, documented more than 20 thousand pieces of digital evidence of war crimes using the eyeWitness for Atrocities application, united lawyers around the idea of the need to create a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and much more to protect the rule of law in Ukraine.
But there are still more challenges ahead. The duty of lawyers is to break the chain of crimes and impunity in the Russian Federation and restore justice.
And we are confidently moving in this direction together with you."
