Anchoring Accountability for Mass Atrocities: The Permanent Support Needed to Fulfil UN Investigative Mandates. May 19, 2022

From Syria to South Sudan, and most recently Ukraine, United Nations investigative mandates establish the truth and gather evidence of potential international atrocity crimes to help lay the foundations of future accountability. In a soon-to-be-published report, Anchoring Accountability for Mass Atrocities: The Permanent Support Needed to Fulfil UN Investigative Mandates, two potential models are included to build and better support the UN investigative capacity. These paradigms, together with the general findings of the report, will be discussed by a high-level panel on Thursday 19 May 2022 from 1500 – 1630 BST at the Palais des Nations, Room XXIII in the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland.
