Quarantine Chronicles of the Ukrainian Bar Association: a Month Later

KYIV - April 22, 2020. A month has passed since the start of the pandemic restrictions. Since then, the Ukrainian Bar Association, along with everyone else, has immediately moved into the world of digitized activities and communications: the Secretariat went to self-isolation, and the UBA moved to a smartphone.

We did not stop for a moment; moreover, we significantly accelerated our pace. We are ready for any further developments, however, now we would like to stop for a moment and analyze the path behind.

We would like to bring to your attention a report on the quarantine activities of the Association during the historic month.

Step 1. Events: The Ukrainian Bar Association has rescheduled all large-scale events to the post-quarantine period, while all committee and regional meetings moved online. In addition, we have launched a number of new webinars adapted to current situation, including anti-crisis and entertainment ones. In addition, we started a series of special online meetings with high-ranking officials and a joint online project with the Supreme Court and the Association for the Development of Judicial Self-Government of Ukraine, dedicated to discussing the latest practice of the Supreme Court.

Importantly, all UBA webinars are free - anyone can join the discussion or view the records.

Step 2. GR: Legislative work has gained unprecedented momentum - in just one month, nine committee appeals were sent to the authorities and a joint position was expressed on the draft Concept for the Development of Legal Education.

Step 3. Media: We have significantly expanded cooperation with mass media. We have nine new media partners.  Nine mass media outlets joined our informational network. In addition, our social networks show a rapid growth: at the time of preparing the video report, our Facebook page has reached the new threshold of 17,000 users.

For more details, please check our report (in Ukrainian).  Meanwhile, we will continue to implement new projects and activities for you.
