KIEV - 5 February 2010. The President of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA), Sergei Konnov approved an initiative to establish a separate UBA Committee on Human Rights.

The respective initiative came from the Head of the UBA Law Practice Committee Sergei Koziakov (Volkov Koziakov & Partners) in the view of the presidential elections in Ukraine.

The President of the Ukrainian Bar Association supported this initiative and expressed his hope that the UBA Board will take the respective decision as soon as possible. Presently the human rights issues fall within the activity of the UBA Committee on constitutional law, administrative law and human rights.

According to Sergei Konnov, "The Ukrainian Bar Association will protect not only the professional rights of lawyers, but also the Constitution of Ukraine and guaranteed rights and freedoms of citizens notwithstanding the election results. Therefore the initiative to establish a separate Committee on Human Rights is not only very appropriate but also very timely.
